The Rheem® Low Pressure Copper Wetback range offers an energy-efficient hot water solution that supplements your electric cylinder using heat from a wood fire, pellet fire, or burner system. Because wood is a renewable energy source, a wetback can meaningfully reduce both your hot water heating costs and the environmental impact of your hot water system — making them ideal for colder New Zealand climates where space heating is used frequently.

Featuring a high grade copper inner cylinder, galvanised steel outer casing, and CFC-free polyurethane foam insulation, all models meet or exceed the NZ Minimum Energy Performance Standard (MEPS) and are proudly designed and manufactured in New Zealand.

How Wetbacks Work

Wetbacks are low pressure water heaters fitted with extra connections for supplementary heating. A pipe arrangement sits in the back of a heat source — typically a firebox — and water from your hot water cylinder is circulated through these pipes (sometimes by a small pump), picking up heat from the fire as it passes through.

Reduces Hot Water Heating Costs

When connected to an appropriate burner, the wetback provides a free boost to water heating during the coldest months of the year, reducing the load on the electric element and lowering your power bill.

Triple Inlet Connections

Choose from bottom, centre-right, or left-hand cold water inlet connections for flexible installation to suit most existing plumbing configurations.

Not suitable for installation in postcode areas 4120 and 4122 (Hastings district) due to local water conditions. Not suitable as a pool or spa heater. Maximum operating pressure 76 kPa.
