The Gree WHIO Inverter Hot Water Heat Pump represents the next generation of residential hot water heating — combining inverter-driven heat pump technology, R290 natural refrigerant, and smart control features into a single, highly efficient unit. Backed by over 15 years of Gree R290 heat pump development, the WHIO delivers class-leading performance with a COP of 5.4 and energy savings of up to 70% compared to conventional electric water heating.

Unlike many heat pump water heaters, the WHIO can heat water to 70°C without a booster element, making it suitable for a wide range of household demands. The 270L model is ideal for households of 4–5 people, and comes with a full Seven Year Parts and Labour Warranty.

 

Exceptional Energy Efficiency with Inverter Technology

With a Coefficient of Performance (COP) of 5.4, the WHIO uses just 426W of power input to deliver 2,300W of heating output. The DC inverter compressor continuously adjusts its frequency and fan speed according to water tank and ambient temperature, optimising energy efficiency at all times.

Heats Water to 70°C — No Booster Element Required

The WHIO’s inverter heat pump is capable of heating water to 70°C in standard operation, eliminating the need to rely on an electric booster element for high-temperature hot water. A 2kW electric heater is also included for use in Boost Mode when needed.

R290 Natural Refrigerant

R290 is a natural refrigerant with a Global Warming Potential (GWP) of just 3, containing no chlorine or fluorine. It offers excellent energy efficiency and is compatible with existing systems — making the WHIO one of the most environmentally responsible hot water heat pumps available.

Smart Sunflower Chip Technology

The WHIO’s intelligent Sunflower function is self-learning and self-forecasting. Once activated, it automatically heats water during the warmest part of the day to maximise heat pump efficiency, only supplementing with additional energy when required.

Wi-Fi App Control

All WHIO models include built-in Wi-Fi for remote control via the Gree+ app, available for both Apple and Android devices. Monitor and adjust your hot water system from anywhere in the world, at any time.

Crystal Titanium Enamel Tank

The WHIO’s tank features a crystal titanium enamel lining in blue, tested for acid resistance and anti-corrosion protection for 1,080 hours. Combined with a double anti-explosion design and high-pressure rated construction, it is built for long-term reliability.

Operates in All Conditions

With an ambient operating range of -7°C to 45°C, a four-way reversing valve for defrosting, and multiple built-in protection functions, the WHIO is designed to deliver reliable hot water year-round across all New Zealand conditions.

Multiple Safety Protection Functions

The WHIO includes comprehensive built-in protections: anti-backflow, automatic temperature control, automatic error detection, anti-dry burn, overpressure protection, high discharge temperature protection, insufficient refrigerant protection, air-blocking protection, and high ambient temperature protection.
